On Tuesday, September 30, the Minnesota Wild and star forward Kirill Kaprizov agreed to a contract extension. The extension is for eight years and is worth a record setting $136 million, keeping Kaprizov in a Wild sweater through the 2033-34 season. The average annual value of the deal is $17 million.
Since breaking into the NHL in 2020, Kaprizov has played in 319 games where he has racked up 386 total points with 185 goals and 201 assists. He is currently the franchises all-time leader averaging 1.21 points per game. During his five seasons to this point, he has totaled 62 power-play goals, 27 game-winning goals, and a plus-71 in the plus/minus on ice rating. Additionally, Kaprizov averages 20:24 ice-time per game.
In the 2024-25 season, Kaprizov battled injuries only playing in 41 regular season games. While on the ice he was stellar, amassing 25 goals and 31 assists for 51 total points. In Minnesota’s Stanley Cup Playoff Quarterfinals loss, he racked up nine points on five goals and four assists over only six games played.
Kaprizov and the Wild will open the 2025-26 regular season on Thursday, October 9 in St. Louis against the Blues with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
