Wild make blockbuster trade for Quinn Hughes

The Minnesota Wild may have just made the biggest trade in franchise history. They traded for Vancouver Canucks captain, Quinn Hughes.

The Wild received the 26-year-old defenseman and in exchange sent forwards Marco Rossi and Liam Ohgren along with defenseman Zeev Buium and a 2026 first round draft pick to Vancouver.

Hughes has played in 459 regular season games over his eight season career. He has recorded 432 total points with 61 goals and 371 assists. Additionally, the defenseman is averaging 24:32 time on ice per game throughout his career.

He has also played in 30 postseason games over a pair of playoff runs with the Canucks. In the postseason, Hughes has two goals and 24 assists while also averaging 23:30 time on ice per game.

So far this season, Hughes has played in 26 games, while recording two goals and 21 assists. He has blocked 32 shots so far this season and is averaging 27:25 time on ice per game.

Hughes is eligible for a contract extension on July 1, 2026. The Wild are now the only team that can offer Hughes an eight year contract with a front loaded dollar amount that could include unlimited signing bonuses, per The Athletic’s Michael Russo. The league’s new collective bargaining agreement begins on September 15, 2026.

The Wild currently have a record 17-9-5 with 39 points and sit in third place in the Central Division. Minnesota returns to the ice on Saturday afternoon when they host the Ottawa Senators with puck drop scheduled for 1 p.m.
