Pennsylvania Governor Shapiro speaks following attempted assassination of Trump

(BUTLER, PA) — For the first time since the deadly shooting at President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Penn., Pennsylvania Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro spoke to the media Sunday.

“The assassination attempt was absolutely unacceptable,” Shapiro said.

Shapiro, who was named Pennsylvania’s 48th Governor this year, said the events of Saturday evening were “shocking for the community.”

The Governor said he has not spoken directly to former President Trump, and has spoken to President Joe Biden.

He has one message for citizens.

“Be firm in your beliefs,” he said. “But do so peacefully.”

Earlier this morning, the FBI identified the subject in the assassination attempt as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, of Bethel Park, Penn.

The investigation continues to be ongoing, Gov. Shapiro said.
