Widespread Snow But Well Needed Moisture

Rain today will turn over to a wintery-mix around the afternoon/evening commute home... that will turn completely over to snow this evening and continue overnight into Tuesday. Widespread snow for the evening with bands of heavier snow due to a shallow low-level layer of instability will support convective bands to form (Bottom image: 0-3 km CAPE (instability)). Heavy to moderate snow at times will reduce visibility with northwest winds between 15-20mph and gust up to 30mph. Temperatures will drop to the mid 20's overnight with snow continuing into Tuesday. 2-4 inches throughout the F/M area with more accumulation to the north and west. A chance of more scattered snow flurries will continue overnight Tuesday but will decrease going into Wednesday which will lead to a breezy and cloudy day with highs in mid 30's. Clouds will hold tight for the rest of the week but the sun will pop back out for our weekend with temperatures near 50.
