A winter storm watch has been issued across the Red River Valley Tuesday from 3:00 PM CDT till 9:00 AM Wednesday (This may turn into a winter storm warning come Tuesday afternoon). Snow will develop by the late afternoon to evening hours (earlier around the Devils Lake area) and last overnight into Wednesday morning. Winds will be picking up from the NNW 20-30 mph through the day, gusting up to 45 mph Tuesday night. This will cause reduced visibility from blowing snow and may affect your evening commute home Tuesday. Near blizzard conditions are expected Tuesday night and may require a blizzard warning to be issued if winds can thoroughly mix to the surface. Windchill values will dip close to -35 degrees overnight into Wednesday morning.
Your Wednesday morning commute will be affected as well. Windy conditions will continue through Wednesday, which may cause blowing and or drifting snow into the afternoon as well as windchills near -25 to -35 during the day. Snow showers will be coming to an end by Wednesday afternoon with 1-5" of snow expected across the area. Localized areas may possibly see closer to 6 or slightly higher amounts. The heaviest snow looks to set up in the northern valley and over into NW Minnesota. Snow banding can't be ruled out yet, which may cause higher accumulation amounts, but 1-4" is expected through the southern valley.
