Brutally cold weather is forecasted to dominate the area tonight with overnight lows 20-30 below. The winds remain fairly light from the WNW 5-15 mph but that's enough to produce windchill as low as -50 into Thursday morning. Hence for the Windchill Warning in effect this evening until noon on Thursday.
Bitterly cold weather remains for Thursday however. Only a high near -5 with the wind switching to the WSW 5-15 mph. Wind chills will be near -30 Thursday afternoon with mostly sunny skies. Overnight Thursday winds will begin to pick up in advance of a clipper system to the north. Winds will turn out of the SSW through Thursday night, 10-20 mph and gusting up to 30. These southernly winds will warm us into above zero into the 20's for Friday!
Friday will be a windy day again, although a high in the 20's is forecasted, 15-25 mph winds gusting to 35 from the SW will cause it to feel quite a bit chillier. A cold front will push across the area again through the afternoon. This will create some snow showers across the area. The winds will turn to the NW between 20-30 mph and gust as high as 45 mph. Some blowing/drifting snow will again be possible throughout the day, especially while snow is falling in the afternoon. Your Friday morning commute may be affected by patchy blowing/drifting snow, and it's likely your Evening commute will be slick from blowing/drifting snow and minor accumulations of snowfall.
Winds will lighten between 10-25 by Friday night with a slight chance for some more light snow showers or flurries. Another chance for snow comes overnight Saturday as well as late in the day Sunday into Monday with highs over the weekend in the upper single digits near 10 above.
