A Winter Storm Warning is in effect along the I-94 corridor and parts south to the South Dakota border until 3:00 pm Wednesday afternoon. Winter Weather Advisories surround that area, see the image above for the warnings and advisories as of 2-28-23 at 4:20 pm CDT.
Through this evening wind will remain light from the northeast between 5-15 mph as light to moderate snow pushes into eastern North Dakota and the Southern Valley. Tonight moderate to heavy snow at times will mix in with strong winds between 20-40 mph with wind gusts causing drastically reduced visibility from blowing and drifting snow and slick roads. Traveling won't be advised and will be difficult. Strong winds continue into Wednesday morning before tapering off into the later afternoon, snow will also taper off by about lunchtime.
Through tonight and Wednesday morning blizzard to blizzard-like conditions will be possible and an upgrade to the warnings may be warranted.
Due to the banding of snow, snowfall amounts may vary a bit from location to location but a general 5-9 inches looks likely with the potential for upwards of a foot or slightly more of snow, see the image below from the NWS Blend Of Models expected snowfall, amounts again could be lower or slightly higher due to banding, so you could give or take a couple of inches in either direction from those totals. Also attached are a couple more models of deterministic snowfall predictions.
