First Arctic Blast Of 2024

As one winter storm exits the United States another Storm enters off the Pacific Ocean. Another snowstorm brews in the western portion of the United States with several advisories, warnings, and watches in its path.

An area of low pressure (Winter Storm Gerri) will move into the central United States Thursday and Friday, then into the East Coast Friday through the weekend.

Heavy snow accumulations of 6-12+ will become possible through areas of Nebraska to Michigan and up through the Northeast.

Winter Storm Gerri will tap into Arctic air on the backside of the storm. Cold air will spill into the Central and Southern United States by the weekend and then east through the beginning of next week.

The coldest hit areas in Montana and North Dakota will have temperatures in spots possibly dropping to around -30 along with windchill less than 50 degrees below zero Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Even areas of Texas and the Gulf States will likely experience some below-zero, single-digit, and or teen values of windchill by Tuesday morning.

It is the first blast of arctic air for the season and year. Many are not used to the bitter cold after most of us have been spoiled with a mild winter thus far. Wind Chill Advisories go into effect Thursday afternoon for North Dakota it's possible and I find it likely to see some windchill warnings this weekend. Other windchill advisories have also been issued in the central United States under other warnings and advisories.
