Record rainfall and the holiday weekend.

I always say if the weather is “lousy” we might as well put it in the record books.  Yesterday was the day for that.  Although some would call the rain much needed instead of a “lousy” day, we did set a record for daily rainfall in Fargo.   The old record was 1.36″ set back in 1908.  Our new record rainfall for yesterday now stands at 1.47″

Now, there were many areas that received much more than that.  Here’s a look at rainfall since yesterday:

A wide area of 1+” of rain across the central valley into lakes country.  Areas north and northwest of the F/M area picked up a little less than 1″   A widespread “soaker” for much of the state.   Now we have some better weather headed our way for the holiday weekend.   Temps for the upcoming holiday weekend look nice with highs in the upper 60s with light winds.  Now, there is a chance for a few showers Sat-Mon, however, these will be pop up showers in the mid to late afternoon hours as we will have some pretty chilly air aloft.  You get the heating of the day to commence, that warm air rises and teams up with the cold air aloft and you get those afternoon cumulus clouds to build and produce hit and miss showers.  No widespread rain expected so if you have outdoor plans, you should get them in with only a few showers possible.
