REGION – Much of the region is preparing for winter weather conditions come Sunday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Grand Forks has placed the Red River Valley into Minnesota in a Winter Storm Watch beginning at 3 a.m. Sunday and lasting until 6 a.m. Monday. This includes the Fargo-Moorhead metro area.
“Some areas could experience near blizzard conditions later Saturday,” Flag Family Chief Meteorologist Dean Wysocki said Saturday evening.
The NWS’ latest update calls for winter impacts with accumulating snow greater than two inches, and blowing snow leading to widespread travel impacts, possible on Sunday.

The NWS said if more than two inches falls in the Red River Valley, blizzard conditions ‘are likely to develop by Sunday afternoon.’ Fargo has a 68 percent chance of eclipsing two inches or more. Areas to the north and east of Fargo-Moorhead have a greater chance of exceeding two inches., including Grand Forks (77 percent), Thief River Falls (79 percent) and Fosston (86 percent).
