Where’s winter? Hang tight, it’s about ready to make a comeback

It’s been a mild start to the month of January!!  Normal highs are in the teens and we’ve been locked into 20s/30s.  Snowfall has been below normal thus far with Fargo about 8″ below normal.

As we head into mid month, all models, including the LRC are indicating a return to Arctic air with numerous “clipper” systems dropping snow and wind.  No BIG storms appear on the horizon but these clipper systems can be a pain at times with minor snow events (1-2″) but alot of wind associated with them.   Mid month onward, expect to see clipper systems along with a return to Arctic air.

Here’s a look at our new AI model and its precip prediction through the 3rd week in January:

This would translate to about 4-7″ of new snow from about the 15th through the 21st.  Winter is about ready to make a comeback.
