It’s that time of the year where the wooly worm predicts the upcoming winter. Woolly worm winter predictions are a piece of folklore stating that the width of a woolly bear caterpillar’s black bands indicates the upcoming winter’s severity; a wider brown/orange band suggests a mild winter, while a wider black band predicts a harsh, cold winter.
Now here is a look at the little critter that I ran across on the trails the other day:
Sooooo…..according to “folklore” the more black, the harsher the winter. According to this guy, the winter will start out harsh….a mild stretch 2/3rds into winter then a stormy end to winter. It’s fun to see how this pans out and the only TRUE winter forecast using the LRC will be out around Thanksgiving.
