Chevron lays off more than 100 N.D. oil jobs after Hess Corp merger

MINOT, N.D. — Chevron is cutting more than 100 North Dakota jobs after merging with Hess Corp.

Layoffs started last month and include 63 workers in Minot and 48 in Tioga. The company initially told the state there would be 70 layoffs, but changed the number this week.

The cuts follow industry consolidation amid lower oil prices and efficiency efforts.

A report on North Dakota’s oil and gas economy shows more than 1,000 oil jobs are open in the state and unemployment is near two-and-a-half-percent.

Chevron affirms its ongoing investment in Bakken shale oil production.
