Twins demoting former No. 1 overall pick Lewis

On Tuesday, May 19 the Minnesota Twins made the decision to demote former No. 1 overall pick Royce Lewis, per The Athletic’s Dan Hayes. The Twins are sending Lewis to Triple-A St. Paul.

In 31 games this season, the 26-year-old has a .163 batting average logging only 17 hits over 104 at-bats. Lewis has hit three home runs while driving in 13 runs and scoring 11 times. Additionally, he has struck out 37 times.

Minnesota is sending down Lewis with the hope that he can get back on track with the bat in his hands. Utility infielder Tristan Gray is expected fill the role at third base for the time.

The Twins will return to the field on Tuesday evening at 6:4o p.m. against the Houston Astros with full game coverage available on Twins.TV.
