Moorhead Man Arrested for Assault and Burglary

(Moorhead. MN) -- A Moorhead man is in custody after an attempted burglary and assault early Wednesday morning.

The Moorhead Police Department says officers responded to a citizen tip reporting a potential burglary to a car dealership in the area of the Holiday Gas Station located on 30th Avenue South around Midnight. Authorities checked the area and located forced entry to a building in the 700 block of 32nd Avenue South, which led to physical and digital evidence being collected from the scene. An individual was observed in the business but was gone by the time the burglary had been discovered.  

Then, at around 5:10 a.m, officers responded to disturbance in the 700 block of 30th Avenue South. Upon arrival a victim of an assault was located. The suspect and victim were not known to each other. The victim was later transported via ambulance to Sanford with serious, but non-life threating injuries. 29-year-old Alfred Thompson was detained as he attempted to flee the scene.

Thompson was identified as the suspect in the assault and earlier burglary. He was arrested for, Felony Third Degree Burglary and Felony Second Degree Assault. He is being held at the Clay County Jail pending formal charges from the Clay County Attorneys Office.
