(Fargo, ND) -- The U.S. Department of Transportation is requiring SkyWest Airlines to continue services at Jamestown and Devils Lake airports.

The airline had issued a 90-day termination notice to the airports last week citing pilot shortages, but the DOT order prevents them from stopping service until an alternate airline is in place. Jamestown Regional Airport manager Katie Hemmer says being able to connect to bigger markets makes a big impact on the community.

North Dakota Senator John Hoeven agrees with the order, saying air traffic from those communities is growing and SkyWest will have to meet the demand.
