(Washington, DC) -- The transportation secretary is focusing on the number of rising traffic deaths around the U.S.

Pete Buttigieg announced a new federal strategy that'll use funding from the bipartisan infrastructure law to help promote safer roads. The National Roadway Safety Strategy has multiple objectives including creating roadway environments that prevent possible crashes, an emphasis on safer speeds on roads, and prioritizing emergency care access after crashes.

Over 20-thousand people died in the first six months of 2021 in car crashes, which was the highest number for that period since 2006.
