(Fargo, ND) -- An investigation into an alleged sexual assault is underway following an arrest that occurred today.
A spokesperson within Fargo Public Schools says a student in the summer sports program reported an "inappropriate event" with an athletic trainer. Levi Tande, an athletic trainer for FPS, was arrested by the Fargo Police Department for sexual assault shortly after the report.
Tande is both a FPS teacher and a Sanford Health affiliated athletic trainer. He is currently on administrative leave with FPS, and Sanford Health has since suspended him without pay until the investigation is completed.
The following is a statement released by Fargo Public Schools just after 5 p.m. on Thursday.
On Thursday, June 22, a student participating in a summer sports program for the Fargo Public School District hosted at South High School reported to administration that an inappropriate situation occurred with an athletic trainer. Administration immediately contacted the School Resource Officer, who began an investigation into the incident. Subsequently, the athletic trainer, Levi Tande, was arrested by the Fargo Police Department for sexual assault.
Fargo Public Schools contracts with Sanford Health for athletic training services. Mr. Tande also is a licensed teacher in the Fargo Public Schools. Even though Mr. Tande is not currently serving in a teaching capacity for the Fargo Public Schools due to summer break, Mr. Tande has immediately been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Sanford Health has also suspended him without pay.
Both Fargo Public Schools and Sanford Health take all allegations of impropriety committed by staff very seriously. The District will fully cooperate with law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. The safety and security of our students is of paramount importance to Fargo Public Schools; we will not tolerate any employee who engages in any inappropriate behavior.
