(Fargo, ND) — The Fargo Police Department presented its facility master plan to the Fargo City Commission on Monday night. The master plan calls for a possible new headquarters to be built, according to presentations made to the Commission.
Fargo Police Chief David Zibolski told Commissioners that part of the master plan’s focus was to address the growth of the City of Fargo over the next 20 years.
Officials with JLG Architects and Roth Sheppard Architects presented two options to the City Commission for their consideration.
The first option, Option A, would be to build a new headquarters for Fargo Police. The department has been at its current location on 25th Street North for four years.
In addition to the new headquarters, Option A would enhance the department’s downtown substation, along with either enhancing, or potentially building, new substations on the western and northern sides of the City of Fargo.
The second option, Option B, would reuse the existing headquarters for the department, along with enhancing three other substations.
“Reusing the existing headquarters might be for police use, might be for other city use,” Bryan Berryhill, with Roth Sheppard Architects, told the Commission. “This could be a place for more enhanced training for the police department.”
Construction would be completed within 5-7 years.
Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve the master plan, while requesting retrofitting the current structure and location be looked into. Dave Piepkorn cast the lone dissenting vote.
