(Fargo, ND) -- The Moorhead Police Department is asking the public for information on an injured puppy, which had to be put down after officers took possession of the animal.

The dog was left abandoned at the South Moorhead Fire Station.

Details on the case were shared in a department press release late Wednesday afternoon.

"On the morning of Sunday, January 21, the Moorhead Police Department was called to the South Fire Station, located in the 2400 block of 20 Street South, for a found abandoned dog in a kennel that was left in the back of their building overnight. The animal was very lethargic, had obvious trauma to its head, and appeared in significant distress. The puppy was transported to the City of Moorhead contracted pound, where the veterinary staff was summoned. Based on the extent of the injuries and for the humane consideration for the well-being of the animal, veterinary staff determined the injuries and condition of the animal were beyond treatment, and the puppy was euthanized. Staff described the puppy as a possible lab cross, male, approximately 4 months old, brown hair, and underweight at 18 lbs."

Anyone with information regarding this puppy is asked to call the Red River Regional Dispatch Center at 701.451.7660 and speak with the on-duty Moorhead Police Supervisor.
