Police Chief says space "is tight" as West Fargo City Commission considers department expansion

(Fargo, ND) -- West Fargo Police Chief Pete Nielsen is talking about a proposal to convert city hall into an expanded police headquarters.

He says the current police space "is tight".

"When it was built back in 2015. The population in the city wasn't nearly what it is now. The amount of officers that we have now versus then, we've outgrown it," said Nielsen.

The city commission on Monday approved spending up to $250,000 to hire consultants to draw up plans for the possible city hall conversion project.

The city is leasing space in the Wex office building and will move non-police related city staff to that location.
