Fargo City Commission candidates to participate in live debate airing on WDAY AM 970 and The Flag

(Fargo, ND) -- All seven candidates running for Fargo City Commission say they will participate in a debate set for Tuesday night.

The debate, which will run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. will be hosted, produced and broadcast by WDAY Radio News, with simulcast also airing on sister station AM 1100 The Flag.

The contest will also be livestreamed on the station's respective social media pages.

The seven candidates are vying for two seats up for grabs in the June Primary.

The candidates running, and taking part in the debate are incumbents Arlette Preston and John Strand, and challengers Delson Saintal, Al Carlson, Anna Johnson, Michelle Turnberg and Nate Pullen.

"We believe that hosting this debate will allow our community to hear directly from the candidates, commenting on topics that we believe are important to our listeners. We appreciate the willingness of the candidates to answer what we believe are important questions. Our goal is to make sure our audience is as informed as possible heading into the election," said Geoff Thaden, Operations Manager for WDAY Radio News and AM 1100 The Flag.

WDAY Mid Day News Anchor Tom Tucker will moderate the debate, and will be assisted by WDAY News Reporter Ty Schonert.

The candidates are expected to weigh in on a wide range of topics including the city budget, public safety, homelessness, and housing.

Listeners and viewers are encouraged to give their thoughts during pre-debate coverage beginning at 5:30 p.m., and during post-debate coverage running until 9:00 p.m.

Those coverage segments will be hosted by Steve Hallstrom, Scott Hennen, & Jay Thomas.
