FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) – Police arrested a 38-year-old Fargo man Tuesday after a three-hour standoff that required the Red River Valley SWAT team.

Fargo police responded at 12:37 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 2, to the 1300 block of 9th St. N. to investigate a reported violation of a domestic violence protection order. Once officers established probable cause to arrest Ben Himle, they tried to contact Himle inside his residence, but he refused to cooperate, police said.

Police attempted negotiations for an extended period but could not convince Himle to surrender.

Police called the Red River Valley SWAT team to execute a search warrant and arrest Himle after his behavior escalated and he allegedly made threats, raising safety concerns.

Police say Himle is booked into the Cass County Jail for violation of a domestic violence protection order and preventing arrest. Police said no active threat to the community remains.
