House passes bill allowing year-round E15 fuel sales

WASHINGTON – The House passes a bill allowing year-round fuel sales of E-15.. also known as unleaded 88.. which is gas with 15 percent ethanol.

Congresswomen Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota and Michelle Fischbach of Minnesota say if the Senate passes the bill, it will be a win for farmers and consumers.

“This is the top priority for farmers in my state and across our nation. I hear it in every conversation, in every town hall, in ever radio show,” Fedorchak said.

“E15 is a lower cost fuel option and during times of fluctuating global energy markets, we must provide relief to hardworking Americans, Fischbach said.

The North Dakota Farmers Union expects the increase in ethanol demand could require nearly two-and-a-half billion bushels of corn each year.

“This legislation provides market certainty for farmers, retailers, ethanol producers and consumers,” NDFU President Matt Perdue said. “We can use what we produce here at home to grow renewable fuels markets, expand use of higher-level blends of ethanol and sustainable aviation fuel. It’s time now for the Senate to pick up the ball and get it over the line.”

The Environmental Protection Agency typically bans E15 sales from June 1 to September 15 because of high-temperature smog concerns, but has issued waivers to increase fuel supply and lower costs.
