(El Paso, TX) -- Officials in El Paso, Texas are getting ready to issue emergency declarations over what they expect will be a dramatic increase in migrants crossing the border when Title 42 immigration limits end Monday.

Since 2020, the policy has been used more than one-point-eight million times to deny migrants a chance to seek asylum in the U.S. due to COVID restrictions. The El Paso County Judge and the mayor of the City of El Paso say their declarations are aimed at getting federal funding to continue border operations.

The Border Patrol says migrant encounters in the El Paso Sector have increased by more than 56-percent over this time last year.
