Lawsuits may make companies liable for social media addicting children

(Sacramento, CA)  --  Concerned parents, mental health professionals, and in some instances, even kids are concerned about the mental health effects of social media addiction.

There are hundreds of lawsuits across the U.S., all asking social media companies to change how their products work.

One California case may be pivotal.

It accuses platforms like TikTok, Instagram and Facebook of using algorithms that hook kids and cause mental health problems including suicidal thoughts.

Attorneys for the companies say that businesses are not legally required to prevent users from becoming addicted to their products.
