(Bismarck, ND) -- The North Dakota National Guard is welcoming Maj. Shawn A. Markovic as the new commander for the National Guard headquarters at Fraine Barracks in Bismarck.
Maj. Markovic's experience in the state include being an organizer that oversaw the North Dakota National Guard's COVID-19 response and directing 60 mobile mass testing events, supervising and executing a Mission Readiness Airlift movement for the Arctic Eagle-Patriot exercise that was conduced in Alaska in March of 2022, and assisting with a search warrant in Williston for a person suspected of owning bomb making materials.
“Pat Flanagan did an outstanding job commanding this diverse and complex unit during challenging times to include the North Dakota National Guard’s longest emergency response in its history – COVID-19,” said Col. Paul Helten, commander, 68th Troop Command, “His leadership and ability to mentor young officers and Soldiers was also invaluable to his tenure as commander.”
Maj. Markovic is assuming the duties of Lt. Col. Pat R. Flanagan, who led the Civil Support Team since January of 2020. You can learn more about the new Commander by clicking here.
