Police association spokesperson bemoans pay scale following resignations in Minnesota town

(Fargo, ND) -- A retired police sergeant is commenting on what she calls inadequate pay, following the resignation of the police chief and all the officers serving Goodhue, Minnesota.

"It's so unfortunate for these officers. You know Chief Josh Smith really wanted to make this work. He said 'I can't do anything with $22 an hour'. This is only an hour and 15 minutes from Minneapolis," said Betsy Brantner Smith.

Smith now serves as the spokesperson for the National Police Association.

She also points to what she calls the "vilification of police officers" as another factor contributing to the ongoing difficulty police departments are having in recruiting and retaining officers.
