(St. Peter, MN) -- The U.S. Army has notified 96-year-old Earl Meyer of St. Peter, Minnesota, that it has granted him a Purple Heart, honoring service members wounded or killed in combat.

Meyer was injured in Korea in 1951. The decision came after a campaign by his daughters, attorney, and support from U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar. A federal judge ordered an Army review board to take another look after it had been rejected for years due to a lack of paperwork.
