College Football roundup: Cobbers, Dragons fall at home; NDSCS wins on the road, Comets fall to rival Vikings

REGION -- Several local college football teams took to the field Saturday. Here's a brief recap of regional games:

St. John's 49, Concordia (Moorhead) 0: St. John's used a 35-point second quarter to rout the Concordia (Moorhead) Cobbers 49-0 at Jake Christiansen Field in Moorhead, Minn. St. John's quarterback Aaron Syverson finished 20-of-24 passing for 289 yards and four touchdowns in the win. For Concordia, quarterback Tanner Dubois went 25-for-39 passing for 149 yards and two interceptions.

Minnesota-Duluth 26, MSU-Moorhead 21: Homecoming at MSU-Moorhead was spoiled with two seconds left as an eight-yard pass from Logan Graetz found Armani Carmickle in the endzone, giving Minnesota-Duluth the 26-21 victory on Scheels Field at Nemzek Stadium in Moorhead, Minn. The Dragons got on the board first with just 1:03 gone in the second quarter, as Tommy Falk found Ryan Bieberdorf for a 29-yard touchdown pass, capping off a five-play, 71-yard drive that spanned nearly three minutes.

Minnesota-Duluth and MSU-Moorhead then traded touchdowns in the third quarter, before the Bulldogs took a 20-14 lead early in the fourth quarter. MSU-Moorhead fought back though, when Falk found Grady Bresnahan for a 46-yard pass to the endzone with 2:10 to go, giving the Dragons the 21-20 lead.

Falk finished the game 13-of-27 passing for 181 yards and two touchdowns. He had one interception in the contest. Hayden Boll had 11 rushes for 45 yards, while Bresnahan finished with two receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown.

Valley City State 49, Mayville State 0: A 28-point first half propelled the Valley City State Vikings to a 49-0 win over the Mayville State Comets Saturday afternoon at Lokken Stadium in Valley City. Valley City State quarterback Jalen Pfeifer finished 17-of-27 passing for 310 yards and four touchdowns. Mayville State's Tim Salmon went 12-of-22 passing for 83 yards. Justice Bice cracked the century mark twice for Valley City State with 18 rushes for 102 yards, along with two receptions for 107 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown catch to put the Vikings up 28-0 late in the second quarter.

North Dakota State College of Science 22, Central Lakes College-Brainerd 19: The North Dakota State College of Science Wildcats used a 15-point fourth quarter to escape Brainerd, Minn., with a 22-19 win.

Graedyn Buell's 26-yard pass to Mareslio Mendez was the winning score with just 19 seconds left, capping off a successful five play, 75-yard drive, only taking 31 seconds.

 Buell finished 18-of-32 passing for 232 yards and three touchdowns for NDSCS.

TJ Owens had 11 rushes for 10 yards, while Demetrius Coleman had eight receptions for 118 yards, and Mendez had five receptions for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
