Historic comeback powers 49ers past Lions in NFC Championship Game

(Santa Clara, CA) -- The 49ers have punched their ticket to Super Bowl 58.

San Francisco put together a dominant second half to defeat the Detroit Lions 34-31 in the NFC Championship Game at Levi's Stadium. The Niners trailed 24-7 at halftime, but outscored the Lions 27-7 through the final two quarters to clinch a spot in the Super Bowl for the eighth time. Brock Purdy completed 20-of-31 passes for 267 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the comeback win. Christian McCaffrey totaled 132 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns.

Detroit QB Jared Goff passed for 273 yards and a touchdown in the losing effort. David Montgomery ran for 93 yards and a score to lead an offense that scored three rushing TD's. The Lions have still never played in a Super Bowl.

The Niners will face the Kansas City Chiefs in a rematch of Super Bowl 54 in Las Vegas on February 11th.
