Hot Fathers Day Weekend

Windy conditions will take over the area for Wednesday and Thursday with lower humidity than the past few days. Both days will contain a slight chance for a couple of showers, but most likely Wednesday evening, slightly less likely Thursday afternoon. Wind will be between 20-30 mph and gusting higher at times out of the SW Wednesday and WNW Thursday. Wind will lighten up Thursday night, leading into a beautiful, mostly sunny Friday afternoon with a light breeze and highs in the mid 80's.

Over our weekend, a heat ridge will build over the middle of the country, causing temperatures to rise to the mid 90's on Saturday, near 100 on Sunday, and mid/upper 90's on Monday with humid and breezy conditions (10-25 mph). With higher humidity, heat indexes will feel hotter than actually air temps, especially in direct sun. Overnight lows will be in the 70's, so evening conditions will be excellent temperature-wise. Saturday and Sunday will be mostly sunny, while a few more clouds will build in on Monday with a slight chance for storms. Temperatures will cool down next week but remain near to just above normal for most of the week.

With higher humidity and hot conditions this weekend, remember to stay hydrated and watch for signs of heat exhaustion/stroke. Heat is the number 1 cause of death weather-wise! So check in with the elderly and make sure your A/C is working ahead of time if you haven't turned it on yet. Limit times outdoors when doing strenuous activities, drink water and look out for one another.
