70’s and 80’s then snow? Rollercoaster ride continues

Ahhhh…..you gotta love spring in the Northern Plains.   70’s and 80s one day, then snow the following day!!   Here’s a look at projected highs on Thursday…..

A cold front will be coming in from the north and note the BIG spread in temps from the upper 20s around Rolla to low 80s in the S. Valley into lakes country….INCREDIBLE spread in temps.   How such a wide range in temps and why so warm out ahead of the cold front?  It’s called “compressional warming”   Sometimes, when you get a strong cold front, you will get air to sink out ahead of that cold front.  The air sinks, compresses, and warms.  Thus, you get much warmer air right in advance of the cold front.

Now, behind the cold front a narrow band of light snow/snow showers will push into the area Friday morning:

Not looking for much snow….just a dusting but the N. Valley could pick up to 1″ of that wonderful white stuff.   Following the cold front 30s for a couple of days before warming right back up into the 60s to near 70 by next week.
