FARGO, N.D. – The Red River Zoo has announced a leadership transition is underway.
Sally Mulvena is stepping down from her role as President and CEO of the Red River Zoo at the end of May. She’s served with the Zoo since 2012, beginning as its Business Manager. In 2016, she transitioned to her current role.
“It has been an amazing experience, and we have accomplished a lot together,” she told Flag Family News in an email.
Mulvena has accepted a new role as President and Chief Executive Officer of another organization, a move that allows her to continue her career in Florida, where her husband lives, following three years of commuting between the two.
“The Zoo means so much to me. Beyond the animals, it’s the people who make this place so special,” she said. “Every tree you see at the Zoo was planted by someone who cares, every exhibit is the result of partnerships, and every smile reflects the people who work hard to make it all possible. It truly is a gem, created by so many who care deeply about our community.”
The Zoo has launched a national search for its next Chief Executive Officer and engaged an executive search firm to assist in the process, with a goal of having new leadership in place by late summer.
Mulvena will remain in her role through May 29. Dr. Caitlin Rickey, the Zoo’s Veterinarian, and Sara Winch, Director of Guest Experience, will lead the organization during the leadership transition.
