Fargo Public Schools Superintendent says elementary students are being caught with vapes

FARGO, N.D. – During a Fargo tobacco and nicotine ordinance listening session, Fargo Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Corey Steiner said younger students are bringing vape pens to school.

“It is starting to make its way into our elementary schools and we are seeing some vape use there and vapes taken away from our elementary students. Minimal, please understand, minimal compared to our middle and high school, but it is starting to filter down,” Steiner explained.

Fargo’s mayor, City Commission members, the city attorney, members of Fargo Cass Public Health, Cass County’s Board of Health director, Essentia Health and Sanford Health representatives and retailers discussed a proposed flavored tobacco and vape ban for Fargo. The Fargo Cass Public Health Board of Health unanimously approved it in February, but the City Commission tabled taking action on it until after the June election.

West Fargo Mayor Bernie Dardis, who’s on the FCPH Board of Health, said he will bring the resolution to his City Commission for consideration as well.
