(Fargo, ND) -- Cass County Jail is expanding its capacity.

Population growth projections indicate that an expansion is needed within the next five to ten years. The jail can currently house just under 350 inmates, with an average stay of nearly 20 days.

Sheriff Jesse Jahner has previously mentioned to WDAY Radio that the facility is experiencing an overpopulation of women, and an increased need for separate housing for those with mental health and intoxication management issues.

To this point, there is no word yet on how much the project will cost or when it will be completed.

The Cass County Commission will work with the Sheriff's office on those plans.
