Dave Hughes says he and Rep. Michelle Fischbach have signed pledge to abide by GOP endorsement

Flag Family News erroneously left out key information in our original reporting not specifying Steve Boyd never signed an endorsement pledge in the race for Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District race in 2024. We’ve updated the story with a quote she gave Alpha News that year. You can read that below.

MINNESOTA – Retired Air Force Major Dave Hughes said he and Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Fischbach have signed a pledge saying if they don’t win the endorsement at the congressional district’s GOP convention they won’t run in the primary.

In 2024 Fischbach signed a pledge with her then Republican rival Steve Boyd, but rescinded it before the convention happened. She told Alpha News Steve Boyd announced from the beginning of his campaign that he would run in the primary and never signed an endorsement pledge.

“We went into the process in good faith that all sides would sign an endorsement pledge. But as months went by and Boyd did not sign it, nearly all party units gave his campaign full and equal access to their conventions and delegates indicating that they don’t value the endorsement pledge,” Fischbach’s campaign said.

In 2024 Fischbach didn’t receive the 60 percent of votes needed for the nomination that year.

Fischbach won the election for Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District by 41% of the vote against Democrat A. John Peters in 2024.

“Legally she’s allowed to do it. Nobody in the state, no law enforcement person or anybody is going to say she broke the law, but it definitely would break faith with the party members, with the delegates, and those who put so much effort into it,” Hughes explained on The Flag.

Fischbach’s campaign team confirmed with Flag Family News she signed the pledge for this year’s election.

Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District GOP’s endorsing convention will be held in Marshall on April 25.
