(St. Paul, MN) -- Minnesota lawmakers are intending to make student renter protections a priority in the next legislation session.

Yesterday, University of Minnesota students attended a join hearing after an apartment complex named Identity Dinkytown failed to finish construction in time for the new school year. Students who already signed their lease say they're upset because they still had to pay the rent for August while looking for new housing. Students are urging lawmakers to pass legislation so things like this won't happen again.

Lawmakers say they plan to investigate the effects this problem has on housing across the state.
